When Are You Going To Have a Baby? Questions and Subjects that can be Sensitive to Others
People may mean well and be polite when asking but there are subjects and topics that should be treated with caution.
Humans are curious beings. We ask questions and we love to gossip about people who we don’t know. We even offer our advice and tips, even if the person involved does not need one. In short, a lot of us are Maritess a colloquial term for gossip mongers.
While there is nothing wrong with asking questions and some do it in a polite manner, there are subjects or topics that may be sensitive for people especially when it’s personal. Here are four of the common subjects often asked that sometimes can go wrong for others.
When are you going to have a baby?
Starting a family is a dream for many newlyweds. But there are those who take their time or may not be interested at all. Being pestered about every time is a different story, especially when not everyone may know the reason.
Actress Heart Evangelista found herself recently being asked again when she’s going to have a child. Tired and annoyed by the question, Heart answered back saying: “Ayoko eh. Didn’t anyone teach you manners? I mean, you know what, if I am not sad about it then why are you even?”

Heart also reminded the person via a text caption that it’s not their uterus. “Being a mom shouldn’t be the only source of happiness. My goodness. What are you going to do when your kids have their own lives?”
The I Left My Heart in Sorsogon star mentioned in past statements that pregnancy has been a very sensitive topic after suffering a miscarriage in 2018.
“Stop telling me to get pregnant unless you really want to hurt me. Nobody knows the real struggle Also may I add life is good people I love are fine and everything else in between is ok so bonus nalang if I do conceive again. It’s my body.”
So a gentle reminder to everyone: If you’re not close or just met the person for the first time, maybe you should be careful asking a woman about this subject.
Politics
Let’s cut to the chase – any discussion in politics including the elections is very sensitive to everyone especially this coming May. These days, the colors that you wear seem to send the message you are voting for this candidate and so on when you personally love that color since you were a kid.
While you can discuss this with close friends and your family members, it’s best to refrain from making assumptions that the person is simply voting for a particular candidate just because he or she is wearing a color that’s linked to the candidate. Also, do not force your beliefs on someone else. Not everyone thinks the way that you do.
When will you have a baby, boyfriend or girlfriend, get married, or sad naman single ka
This question is one of those that often crop up even in family reunions next to “wow you gained weight”. While family members (the titos and titas in particular) want updates about your personal life, a lot of them won’t understand that you are contented with your life or just broke up with someone. Some of them will probably say darating din yan. (That will come in time)
So to parents and family members out there, when asking about someone’s relationship status or when they will have a baby, be polite. Not everyone will share their feelings even if you are part of the family.
Religion
Next to politics, religion is the second subject people try to avoid especially when it comes to biases. While there are those who are open-minded and curious, there are those who take things literally especially when it comes to the words in either the Bible or a sacred book in their religion. Religion also remains one of the reasons why there are wars and tensions around the world.
While it’s good to ask questions, always be sure to ask if the person is comfortable speaking about their culture and religion. Again, not everyone is the same. You can educate but don’t shove your beliefs and values on someone else.
Be sensitive
In a world where cancel culture happens, it’s important to learn and educate oneself on things that may be sensitive to others. Social Media may have given everyone the right to make comments but practicing empathy is also very important where hate drives the internet. It’s okay to make mistakes but learn from them to make sure that you won’t do it again.
