Ms. Rachel’s Songs for Littles is Changing Screen Time in a Good Way!

Ms. Rachel of Songs for Littles is a great educational show on YouTube for babies and toddlers.

For parents who need a little break or me-time, resorting to educational shows and YouTube channels is an effective way to keep their kids busy. After all, toddlers love shows like CoComelon and Blippi. Additionally, you can’t ignore the classics like Sesame Street and Blue’s Clues. But if you’re looking for more options, we highly recommend checking out Ms. Rachel and her show, Songs for Littles!

Songs for Littles is changing screen time

The main character of Songs for Littles is Ms. Rachel. She makes the show interactive, beneficial, and educational for both little ones and their parents. Ms. Rachel is a passionate educator and award-winning songwriter. She has a Master’s Degree in Music Education from New York University. She then continued her Early Childhood Education studies through Harvard and Bank Street College. Currently, she is pursuing a second Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.

Songs for Littles was inspired by her 4-year-old child, who had a speech delay. In an interview with Parents, she shared, “My son had a speech delay and I was looking for anything possible to help him. I thought it would be great if there was a show for toddlers that encouraged speech; something slow-paced, very interactive, and taught by a real person. When I couldn’t find a show like that, I thought maybe we could create one.”

Apart from upbeat nursery rhymes and fun dances, Ms. Rachel teaches babies and toddlers sign language and how to talk.

An inclusive show

Aside from Ms. Rachel, you’ll find other personalities that introduce children to different races and genders. There’s Jules—addressed as they/them—who is a New York City-based singer and songwriter. Jules’ passion for songwriting extends to teaching at a local private school and mentoring every summer at the Berklee Songwriting Workshop.

Then there’s Keisha Gilles—an actor and teaching artist. After training in Musical Theater at the Hartt School of Music, Keisha performed in shows including Aladdin (Broadway), The Book of Mormon (Broadway), and Dream Girls (National Tour).

A Filipino will also be introduced very soon as Ms. Rachel will be tackling emotions in her next video.

Moms get a quick break thanks to Songs for Littles

Infants as young as 4 months love listening to Ms. Rachel. And moms with no yayas are able to catch a breather in between their babies’ naps and wake windows.

“It’s pretty educational not only for children but for the caregivers themselves. She definitely provides ideas and inspiration on how to include narration and nursery rhymes in daily life—thus fostering language development,” shares one mom.

“Zero screen time is impossible especially when you have no helper,” says another mom. “I tried not giving my daughter screen time but it’s too hard. So thank God for Songs for Littles. It’s so helpful. And at least you know your baby gets to learn something.”
