Brendan, who played the role of a gay obese man in the movie gave a shoutout to director Darren Arofnosky for giving him a “creative lifeline.”
Brendan Fraser won the Best Actor award for his role as a gay obese father in the movie The Whale directed by Darren Arofnosky.
The actor was overwhelmed as he stepped on stage to get the award from Oscar winners Jessica Chastain and Halle Berry on Sunday, March 12 at the Dolby Theatre.
“So this is what the multiverse looks like,” he exclaimed. “I thank the Academy for this honor and for our studio A24 for making such a bold film.”
“I’m grateful to Darren Aronofsky for throwing me a creative lifeline and hauling me aboard the good ship The Whale.”
He also gave a shout-out to the cast and crew who he said gave their hearts out for the film. The win was a big one for Brendan who took a hiatus except for a few projects in between.
Longtime coming for Brendan
Brendan, who has been in the business for 30 years, said that there was a “facility” that he didn’t appreciate and later on stopped.
“It’s been like a diving expedition at the bottom of the ocean and the air on the line to the surface is on a launch being watched over by some people in my life.”
He also gave a special mention to his sons who were present with him at the event.
The award marks Brendan’s return to the spotlight after taking a break from showbiz. Brendan’s films include The Mummy Franchise and George of the Jungle.
