Christina Aguilera Tackles Body Image and Mental Health Issues in New Video

Christina re-releases a new video of her hit song Beautiful in celebration of World Mental Health Awareness Month.

Twenty years after her album Stripped came out, Christina Aguilera posted a new music video of her hit song “Beautiful”. This is in celebration of World Mental Health Awareness Month.

In an Instagram post on Thursday, October 20, the Grammy award-winning singer and former judge of The Voice shared the story behind the new music video of the song.

Christina Aguilera: “We are beautiful no matter what they say.”

“We are beautiful no matter what they say. A message I will always stand by. And a message I prioritize to instill in my own children through every chapter of their lives!” Christina Aguilera wrote.

“Today, it’s harder than ever to hear our own voice amongst so many others infiltrating our feeds and minds with mixed messaging. Ultimately leading us to tune out our own truth and self-worth.”

The “Genie in A Bottle” songstress added that when the first “Beautiful” music video came out, it was all about “a sense of compassion in the face of judgment, criticism, and outside opinions.”

“It still carries an important message to remember our core values outside of what’s being fed to us. To find a sense of balance and accept ourselves for who we are,” Christina said.

The Issue of Body Image and World Mental Health

At the end of the video, Christina put out a message about the impact of social media on body image and mental health.

“In the last 20 years, since Stripped was first released, social media has transformed our relationship with our bodies, and in turn, with our mental health. Research suggests that time on social networking sites is associated with body image issues, self-harm, and disordered eating in children and teens. This needs to change.”

Christina has been an advocate of mental health. She has even opened up about her struggles when she started in the music industry.

Since her time with the Mickey Mouse Club in the 90s, Christina has become one of the world’s most famous artists. She is currently promoting her new album Aguilera.

Christina has been in a relationship with Matthew Rutler since 2010. They are currently engaged and have a daughter named Summer. She also has a son, Max, with ex-husband Jordan Bratman.
