Clean, Disinfect and Sanitize Your Home Like A Pro

This is Part 2 of Modern Parenting’s getting your home ready for 2021 series. In case you missed it, here’s Part 1 — Sort, Detach, Rehome: The Easy Way to Organize Your Spaces.

Getting ready for the coming year should begin with our homes — our solitary sanctuary for the last nine months, since the Enhanced Community Quarantine, or ECQ began. On top of that, our homes also function as our offices, our kids’ classrooms, and so much more. This means we need to take it up a notch by ensuring our house is clean, disinfected and sanitized.

Because nothing beats coming home to a clean, sanitized house

Once you’ve decluttered and organized, you can take things up a notch by doing some serious general cleaning or spring cleaning. Need some motivation? The clean and fresh smell that only comes after you’ve cleaned, organized, sanitized and disinfected your house! Want to get started? Here’s how:

Step 1: Get ready to clean every nook and cranny of your home

The toughest places to clean are the high traffic areas — in our house, it’s the kitchen dining room and staircase. And in cleaning, you always start from top to bottom — ceiling to floor, attic to basement, and so on.

So start at the top-most floor of your house, usually where the private spaces are like bedrooms and bathrooms. Then move downstairs to the living and dining areas. These spaces are typically cleaned everyday (I hope) but this time, we are going to do some deep cleaning. Pay special attention to your sofas and mattresses, window coverings (curtains or blinds), windows and carpets because over time, that can get really nasty.

BMG Enterprises and Services uses Gruenheim technology to vacuum mattresses, sofas, carpets, etc.

Apart from dust, dust mites are easily caught in these places and the only way to get rid of them is by using a vacuum cleaning system with water filter technology for a thorough deep clean of our sofas, mattresses, carpets and window coverings. Your pillows and throw pillows should also be steamed to remove dust and kill dust mites. For this, I highly recommend BMG Enterprises and Services.

Step 2: Pay special attention to your kitchen and kitchen appliances

Our kitchens have seen better days prior to the lockdown. I’m sure this is the one thing we can all agree on since for the past several months, we have all been cooking at home more than ever before.

By now, your kitchen cabinets and cupboards should be decluttered and organized. If you hadn’t done so already, now is a good time to clean the inside to make sure there’s no dust, residue from food containers and yucky insects. Take this opportunity to put fresh liners on your shelves as well.

The Gruenheim steamer is perfect for cleaning kitchen appliances

Kitchen appliances should also be thoroughly cleaned. Aside from good ol’ soap and water, consider using a steamer to get into the crevices and hard to reach areas. You can also use BMG Enterprises and Services’ Gruenheim steamer for this.

Step 3: Don’t forget your air conditioners and electric fans

What good will a clean space do if the air you coming out of your air conditioners is filthy? Most air conditioners have filters we can clean regularly, but what about the inner workings of the AC unit that we can’t reach?

The Bactakleen Ultramist treatment in action

The Bactakleen 3-in-1 Treatment has an Ultramist Treatment that instantly kills germs, virus, molds and bacteria inside the air-conditiong unit. It sanitizes the air within a room through the air-conditioning vents. The treatment is made of an organic solution and is safe, non toxic and environmentally friendly, and lasts up to 3 months. COVID-19 attacks our respiratory system, which means the air we are breathing should be as clean as possible.

Step 4: Cleaning and disinfecting go hand in hand

Cleaning and disinfecting go together like peanut butter and jelly. So, once you’ve cleaned your rooms, your air-conditioning units, your kitchen and bathrooms, now it’s for some finishing touches — kill the bacteria on contact and make sure to maintain it as much as we can. Bactakleen’s Bactashield Powersprayer disinfects using a non toxic, water based anti-bacterial and anti-fungal spray that will eliminate 99.99% bacteria, fungus and virus on any surface.

Right: Marvekleen non-toxic, non-hazardous disinfecting solution

Follow it up with the Marvekleen Powersprayer —a treatment that disinfects on top of Bactashield. It uses a disinfectant that’s safe for the human body, it is non-toxic, non-hazardous and non-irritant and there are no harmful residuals. Marvekleen is safe for our skin, and can be used to clean fruits and vegetables. This is a powerful disinfection against viruses, bacteria and fungi, and is safe to use everyday. And this is truly the icing on the cake.

Step 5: Be mindful about sterilizing the things you bring outdoors.

With a home that is clean and sanitized, we now have to be vigilant about bringing things and personal belongings that were exposed outside into our homes.

It is so easy to overlook little things like our cellphones, wallets, jewelry, right? Yet, these are the same items that can be the culprits. One way to keep our everyday items sterilized is by using authentic UVC technology sterilizers, especially for items that can’t get wet or moist. Disinfection and sterilization with UV Protect is safe and easy. My favorite is the UV Protect 16 UV-C Wand Sterilizer which I use on my laptop, items I receive in the mail, takeout boxes, and more. The UV Protect UV-C Sterilizer Bag is a handbag that safely sterilizes all contents within wherever you go with just a push of a button. Both products do the job on contact — quickly and conveniently.

Giving a new meaning to spic n’ span

And there you have it, folks. I never really thought I would ever be writing about cleaning, disinfecting and sanitizing, but given the times we are living in, the adjustments we’ve had to make and the precautions we need to take, I thought that sharing these tried and tested products and services with everyone out there, not just parents, is a must. When it comes to the health and safety of our families, we always have to start with our homes.

I hope that with all the tips we have shared with you about decluttering and organizing, cleaning and disinfecting, you now have something to guide you on your way to welcoming an amazing new year with a sparkling, spic n’ span and sanitized house.
