Dennis Trillo Recalls Getting a Second Chance with Jennylyn Mercado
During an interview with GMA 7’s Nelson Canlas, Dennis shared how he reached out to Jennylyn, now his wife, for a second chance.
Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado‘s romance is a dream for many couples. The actor, who now shares a daughter Dylan with Jen, recalled the time he reached out to her after their break-up years back.
During an interview with Nelson Canlas’ podcast last October 14, the Maria Clara and Ibarra actor recalled how he was able to reach out to Jennylyn again—years after they broke up.
Getting in touch
Dennis said it was around the time when he and his co-star Tom Rodriguez finished a show in London.
“Tinext ko lang na, ‘O, kumusta ka na?’ Nag-reply naman siya tapos simula no’n, nagtuloy na ulit ‘yung communication naming dalawa,” he said.
Dennis said that he and Jennylyn never thought they would get back together. After seven years, they tied the knot in November 2021.
‘Yun ‘yung nakakatuwa, na nangyari ‘yung hindi mo akalain tapos ‘di mo alam, siya pa rin talaga hanggang sa huli,” he said.
“Pareho kami, never namin na-imagine na mangyayari ‘to sa mga buhay namin, na magkakaroon kami ng happy ending. Actually hindi pa happy ending, happy start.”
Dennis on keeping the romance with Jennylyn alive
In the same interview, Dennis was asked if the romance has not disappeared now that Jennylyn is a mother.
“Importante pa rin ang affection sa iyong partner. Yung pag-appreciate sa kanya sa mga ginagawa niya para maipatuloy ‘nyo din yung gawain. Yung appreciation important,” he said. Ako tina-try ko na hindi mawala iyong mga importante pa ma-build yung strong relationship na iyon at para lalong tumagal pa.“
The couple first got together in 2010 but broke up a year later. In 2014, they reconciled and have since been together, having done a concert and several shows.
Before getting together, Jennylyn dated Luis Manzano. She also has a son, Jazz, with ex-boyfriend Patrick Garcia. Dennis, on the other hand, has a son with ex-girlfriend Carlene Aguilar.
