The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced today, June 21, that the entire southbound lane of the EDSA-Kamuning Flyover in Quezon City will be closed for an entire month. The closure will start on June 25, 2022 (Saturday) at 6 in the morning. This affects all three lanes of the flyover—including the Bus Carousel lane.

Repair of the EDSA-Kamuning Flyover

Last week, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) spotted large cracks and potholes along the EDSA-Kamuning Flyover. Closing it will speed up the repairs—according to DPWH-NCR district engineer Eduardo Santos.

He explained that the rehabilitation, which spans about 30 meters, will take one month. He also mentioned that the repairs will be done manually without the use of heavy equipment. Moreover, they will be using concrete—which takes seven days to cure to ensure its sturdiness.

Families and commuters affected

With the closure of the EDSA-Kamuning Flyover, many families and commuters who live up north will need to find alternative routes. This is especially true for those who work or study in the middle and southern areas of Metro Manila. These include business districts such as Makati and Bonifacio Global City.

MMDA advised motorists to use the service road or Scout Borromeo Street, Eugenio Lopez Drive, and other Mabuhay lanes as route options. Additionally, those headed to the south can explore taking the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 Project (MMSS3). It’s an elevated expressway that connects the the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) in Balintawak, Quezon City and Buendia, Makati.
