Get to know these inspiring Filipinas
Truly, seeing other women shine and be empowered is an uplifting feeling. It inspires you and motivates you to push yourself further. There’s no doubt that the Philippines is a country rich in talent and skill, furthered by these empowered Filipinas. They come from different backgrounds and industries, but one thing is common—they are opening doors, initiating change, and showing the world what women are capable of.
Get to know some of the different faces of Filipina empowerment:
1. Margot Torres
Meet McDonalds Philippines’ managing director, Margot Torres. Apart from being a multi-awarded top executive, she is also happily married and a mom to two young adults. She is also the private sector lead for Pilipinas Kontra Gutom, a multi-sectoral initiative in partnership with the government’s Task Force Zero Hunger.
In an interview with Business World, she said, “I believe that nothing beats hard work to achieve your goals. In my career, I have learned that integrity, conviction, consistency and empathy are essential for leaders.
Humility trumps them all because it helps us embrace temporary failure which is inevitable. And when we do, we become better. Humility means we always stay open to learn.”
2. Shaira Luna
Name a celebrity and she has probably taken a photo of them. As a child, Shaira was known as one of Promil’s gifted children. Fast forward to today, and she is now one of the Philippines’ most sought-after photographers.
“One thing I love about being in the creative industry is that I always discover something new—both about the craft and myself! 15 years in the industry has given me not just skills, but many friends, dreams, and the realization that you really can make your own path, at your own pace.” she shares.
What a girl. We’re definitely excited to see what she has in store for the world as her career progresses.
3. Hon. Cristal Bagatsing
Hon. Cristal Bagatsing is the congresswoman of Manila’s 5th district. She is also head of the Kabalikat ng Bayan sa Kaunlaran (KABAKA) foundation, which helps alleviate poverty and conduct feeding, educational, and leadership programs.
What has she learned from her role in government?
“I realized through the years that if you want something done right, you have to oversee everything from start to finish. Follow through the projects that you are passionate about and it won’t be that hard to see it through. Make sure you have a good, solid team of people you can trust,” she shares.
These women are surely inspiring us on this sunny Monday. As we continue to celebrate Women’s Month, allow us to give a salute to all the Filipinas who continue to inspire, uplift, and fight.
