Gisele Bündchen Opens Up on Her Divorce with Tom Brady

After her failed marriage to Tom Brady made headlines last year, Gisele Bündchen gives an interview with Vanity Fair about her relationship with her ex-husband and what’s next for her.

Brazilian model, entrepreneur, and book author Gisele Bündchen gave an interview with Vanity Fair months after her divorce from retired football star Tom Brady. Gisele is considered one of the highest-paid models of her time. In the interview, she spoke about the tabloid reports on her failed marriage. She also opened up about co-parenting their children, and her relationship with Tom’s ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan, who has a son, Jack, with Tom.

Gisele Bündchen: Many of the stories are not true

In the interview, Gisele cleared up rumors circulating in the tabloids after their divorce was announced. She spoke about Tom’s retirement from his football career and that she allegedly gave an ultimatum for him to choose.

“Listen, I have always cheered for him, and I would continue forever,” Gisele told Vanity Fair. “If there’s one person I want to be the happiest in the world, it’s him, believe me. I want him to achieve and conquer. I want all his dreams to come true. That’s what I want, really, from the bottom of my heart.”

While Gisele did not divulge much about the breakdown of her marriage, she said many of the stories that came out in the media were untrue.

“What’s been said is one piece of a much bigger puzzle,” she clarifies.  “It’s not so black and white.”

“Sometimes you grow together; sometimes you grow apart,” she continued.  “When I was 26 years old and he was 29 years old, we met. We wanted a family, we wanted things together. As time goes by, we realize that we just wanted different things, and now we have a choice to make. That doesn’t mean you don’t love the person. It just means that in order for you to be authentic and truly live the life that you want to live, you have to have somebody who can meet you in the middle, right? It’s a dance. It’s a balance.”

“When you love someone, you don’t put them in jail and say, ‘You have to live this life.’ You set them free to be who they are. And if you want to fly in the same direction, then that’s amazing,” she added.

Gisele on mending her relationship with Bridget Moynahan

In the same interview, Gisele also spoke about her relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan. Bridget is the mother of Tom’s eldest son Jack. She admitted that the relationship wasn’t great from the beginning. But things eventually happened while they were always running to each other in New York and Boston.

“My life became so much richer because I got to learn so much from that,” she said of the times she got to know Bridget.

“I put myself in her shoes. And I was like, ‘How can I support her?’ Because [at] the end of the day, we are team players in ‘How are we going to do this so [Jack] can have the best life?’”

Moreover, she mentioned that she considers Jack her “bonus child” and that while he isn’t around as much as he was before, she still loves him very much.

Life after divorce

Although their marriage ended after 13 years, Gisele still allows her kids to be with their dad. They even went to his game where the Dallas Cowboys beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

While she and Tom have made sure to co-parent their children, they make sure to have friendly relationships with one another, too. Gisele mentioned that Miami will be the temporary location for her and the kids. This way, they can be close to their dad.

“Miami works for me because it’s literally a direct flight to Brazil,” she said, adding she will travel more often to her native country to visit her family.

And while she had a brief acting stint before on The Devil Wears Prada and retired from modeling, Gisele said the options are still open including making a cookbook.

“My goal is to make it really simple,” she stated.
