GMA Drops the Mega Trailer of Voltes V: Legacy

GMA releases the newest trailer of its biggest project, Voltes V: Legacy during the New Year’s Eve Countdown.

GMA released the newest trailer of Voltes V: Legacy during its New Year’s Eve Countdown. The more than 5-minute clip dubbed as a “mega trailer” showed scenes from the anime series that became popular in the Philippines in the late 70s and 80s.

Some of the scenes include the “butterfly” technique Big Bert (Matt Lozano) showed his brother Steve (Miguel Tanfelix), the duel between Steve and Zardoz, and the sacrifice of Mary Ann Armstrong (Carla Abellana) to save her sons and the Voltes team from a beast fighter.

The trailer formally gives a glimpse of the Armstrong brothers’ father Ned Armstrong or Prince Hrothgar (Dennis Trillo) as he tries to escape the Boazanian empire after he was betrayed and meets Mary Ann, leading to the creation of Voltes V.

While the trailer shows familiar scenes, it also showed some modern twists to the storyline. These include a romantic moment between Zardoz (Martin del Rosario) and Zandra (Liezel Lopez) and the growing closeness between Steve and Jamie Robinson (Ysabel Ortega).

Directed by Mark Reyes, Voltes V first aired in the Philippines in the late ’70s and ’80. Unfortunately, the late President Ferdinand Marcos banned the show due to its alleged violence. After the 1986 People Power Revolution, the show returned with its dub in both English and Filipino.

GMA has previously hinted it was doing a Voltes V show, dropping a teaser in 2020.

In 2021, the Voltes V cast was formally introduced led by Miguel Tanfelix.

In 2022, a featurette was released, showing the making of the show.

A date has yet to be announced for its airing but was announced as part of GMA’s 2023 offerings.
