COVID-19 may have killed a lot of businesses but created a lot of new ones, too. The limitations on events and shows made many of our celebrity moms turn into aspiring mompreneurs. Whether they got into the fashion or food industry, these celebrity mompreneurs knew how to strut their stuff. Here are local mompreneurs that have made their business work during the pandemic.

While taking care of Baz, Blanca, and Dalida, celebrity talk-show host and content creator mompreneur Divine Lee started two businesses: The Lounge Edit and Raising Little PH. While Raising Little PH has been around since 2018, The Lounge Edit came about in 2020 to give us working moms loungewear that’s soft and fashionable to wear. If we’re not into clothes, there are also some pretty houseware to tickle our fancy.
2. Celine Cornejo (@teachercelineph)
Celebrity content creator, mom of two, and pre-school teacher Celine Cornejo introduced her line of local skincare products: Teacher Cares. She takes pride in her Natural Oils Cleansing Bars that are made from VCO, Castor Oil, and Olive Oil. 3. Marian Rivera (@marianrivera)
Actress, host, and celebrity Marian River can now add mompreneur to her list as the founder of Flora Vida. She drew inspiration from her love for flowers to create things to fill all our houses with warmth and joy during the pandemic. Her line includes not only flower arrangements which she designed but also some clothes and houseware to make our homes brighter and warmer than ever.
4. Janna Simpao (@jannasimpao)
Homeschool moms, your prayers have been answered with celebrity mompreneur Janna Simpao’s latest creation: the Kidstarter Curious Curriculum. She wanted to help other moms make life-long learners out of their kids. The Bride and Breakfast Editor-in-Chief also began her line of accessories called By Janna to show us, moms, that it’s okay to spoil ourselves, too.

Celebrity mom and designer Marga Nograles had to deal with the shipments being delayed while taking care of Kaayo‘s weavers in Mindanao. She enjoys introducing cultural designs of the south to many of those in the North, creating not only houseware but even clothing pieces. Two weeks ago, she even proudly posted Kaayo’s new opening in SM Aura Premier on the Upper Ground floor.

When the pandemic hit, TV’s Dance Diva Regine Tolentino had to change the business strategy of her 21-year-old business while juggling the needs of her 1-year-old, Rosie Rignee. With events canceled and the demand for PPEs and masks rising, she quickly changed her namesake‘s strategy to create a new source of PPEs for our front liners. She also didn’t abandon her love for dancing, becoming a dance instructor to inspire a love for dancing in others.

Celebrity mompreneur and Qbags by Candy‘s owner Candy Pangilinan saw the benefits of switching to an online setup. No rent to worry about, less overhead, and mainly shipments and deliveries being the only challenge. As a stand-up comedian, Candy always made sure that her son Quentin had the happiest days of his life. Even with the pandemic rules being erratic as they were for her business, she always had time for Quentin.

We may not have a big following like these celebrity mompreneurs but it’s still possible to start a business in the pandemic. It may sound risky especially with the kind of capital needed for the business we want to get into. But, the pandemic served as a big reset button to all of us who may have been stuck in a dead-end job or still soul searching. As moms, it doesn’t mean we’re stuck with just raising the kids. We have years of good education and experience under our belts, so it’s time to put them to good use!
