Jessy Mendiola and Luis Manzano Answer Questions on Pregnancy Journey

In a new vlog, Jessy Mendiola and Luis Manzano shared some details of their journey as soon-to-be parents.

Jessy Mendiola and Luis Manzano sat down to answer questions about their journey as soon-to-be parents in a new vlog posted on Thursday, August 19. The couple announced the pregnancy last August 12.

During the interview, the couple got real about the initial pressure on themselves to have a child, how their respective parents reacted, and the adjustments.

Jessy Mendiola’s pregnancy

Jessy said it was around the end of May or June when she started to feel the changes in her body. “We’ve been trying for months.”

The actress-vlogger admitted that she and Luis would feel sad and frustrated from time to time that she would not be pregnant, but they’ve learned to relax since.

“Dumating na kami sa point na hindi na kami pressured. Kumgbaga nag-usap kami na let’s have fun na lang, enjoy,” Jessy said with Luis admitting that he enjoyed the intimacy he and his wife shared.

“Nandoon yung effort pero as much as possible, hindi namin hinayaan ma-stress kami kung ibigay ni Lord or hindi,” Luis said.

Jessy then shared she asked Luis to get a pregnancy test while he was at work. And after two pregnancy tests, it was confirmed she was pregnant. Luis admitted to getting emotional that he was going to be a father soon.

Parents’ reactions

Luis said that his mom, actress, and former Batangas representative Vilma Santos was the first to know about the pregnancy and is excited about the grandchild. Jessy said it was her mom who she first told the news as well.

“Yung mommy ko sobrang excited niya, hindi niya napigilan tapos nasabi niya sa tatay ko. Nasabi niya sa mga kapatid ko, nasabi niya sa ibang mga relatives namin. Ramdam ko naman sobra silang excited umuwi ngayong taon.”

Luis said he and Jessy informed his dad, actor Edu Manzano, of the news alongside Cherry Pie Picache.

“Naiyak siya,” Jessy said of her father-in-law Edu Manzano. “Tapos yung nangyari kay Daddy Yo, pinakita namin yung ultrasound pumunta siya sa kuwarto niya na naiiyak tapos nagdala siya ng bouquet.“

“So nag-ready siya ng flowers not sure for what,” Luis added.

Former senator and now Batangas representative Ralph Recto is also excited for his stepson’s child that when Jessy requested she wanted to eat crabs, he actually bought big ones for her.

Adjustments

Moreover, the couple shared that they made some initial adjustments to their lifestyle. Jessy will have to stop eating some of her favorites such as sushi, sashimi, and spicy food like kimchi for a while. She also said high-intensity workouts will have to stop for now.

“Medyo nakaka-sad pero all worth it para sa baby,” she said.

For Luis, the adjustment was that he is now more determined to work unlike when he would normally ask for compromises on his schedule.

“Adjustment lang sa akin yung mindset na gusto ko pang magsipag,” he said. “Dati grabe ako maglagay ng rest day sa schedule ko.“

Aside from the physical adjustments, the couple said they have been asking themselves about their emotions on whether they are really prepared to be parents. “Ang sagot namin sa isa’t isa is you’ll never really know,” Jessy mentioned.

“You’ll never be ready,” Luis added.

Expectations and tips for would-be parents

As they transition and await for the arrival of their baby Peanut, Luis said of any potential tips to would-be parents: “Ako, sabay-sabay tayo matuto. Kungyari kayo medyo nangangapa pa, naguguluhan pa, we’re on the same boat.”

“At tsaka lean on your partner,” Jessy answered. “Yung asawa ‘nyo or yung partner ninyo kaya nandyan ay alalayan kayo, tulungan kayo sa journey na ito.”

The couple mentioned that as early as now, they know it won’t be an easy journey for them. But they vow to their baby they will do everything they can.

“Mama will always be here for you kahit ano pa yan. Kahit ano pang mangyari. Aalagaan ka namin, babantayan ka namin,” Jessy said addressing their little Peanut.

“We will let you live your life but we will always be here for you,” she added.

” I won’t be the perfect father,” Luis said. “But the thing that will be perfect is my love for you. Ngayon pa lang kineclaim ko na na I will have faults as a father. Because we’re human but I will love Peanut perfectly.”
