Joaquin Domagoso Gives Insights on Life as a Dad
Actor Joaquin Domagoso shares how he has been balancing his roles as an actor and a father together with other commitments in his life.
The year 2023 opened well for Joaquin Domagoso. His film The Boy in the Dark was shown last January 8 and received several awards including Best Actor at the Boden International Film Festival in Sweden. He recently got to speak with the press about his plans including his life as a dad.
Joaquin Domagoso on life as a father
Speaking to members of the press at the premiere night of the movie, Joaquin said that despite being a dad to his son Scott with partner Raffa Castro, he still learns to be focused most especially on his career.
“My career has always been something I wanted to do. I don’t think any externals in my life is going to change that,” Joaquin explained. “Like even now that I am studying, now that I am a dad and now that I am working in an office, too, I am still doing what I love because mahal ko ito at gusto ko ito.”
When mentioned that he is one of many young actors who are now parents setting a different standard today, Joaquin has this to say: “I’m sure you understand at nakaka-relate kayo na no regrets. Sobrang saya ng buhay ngayon.”
Prior to the premiere night, Joaquin also spoke about his life as a parent. “Bihira na rin akong umalis ng bahay because lagi ko siyang miss. Tulad ngayon. Maraming feelings na hindi mo mararamdaman talaga,” he told Manila Bulletin.
“There are so many new feelings all the time na nakakaiyak at nakakatuwa. Medyo iba na ngayon ang mundo ko. Yung mga sinabi before ng tatay ko or ng mama ko hindi ko naiintidihan. Ngayon parang gets ko na.”
A confirmation from Isko
It was around June when it was reported that Joaquin became a dad. It was Joaquin’s dad, former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, who confirmed the story and that both sides — the Domagosos and the Castros — are happy about the arrival of Scott. Raffa is the daughter of former actor and TV news anchor Diego Castro, whose parents, Angelo Castro and June Keithley, are well-known broadcasters.
“Isa sa mga blessings ay lolo na ako. Ang pogi ng apo ko,” Isko told Modern Parenting in July of his grandson.
“I’m happy and grateful to God. Of course, I’m happy for Joaquin. Having a child, naturally, will create a certain mindset in terms of priorities,” he said of his son.
Before the release of The Boy in the Dark, Joaquin was last seen in the First Lady on GMA starring Sanya Lopez and Gabby Concepcion.
