Maalaala Mo Kaya Waves Goodbye After 31 Years

After 31 years, one of ABS-CBN’s longest-running TV shows that Charo Santos hosts, Maalaala Mo Kaya, bids goodbye with a final 3-part episode.

Maalaala Mo Kaya, one of ABS-CBN’s most extended shows, will sign off after 31 years on television. It was known to air stories of real people—their lives, families, and struggles.

MMK’s host, Charo Santos, made the announcement on TV Patrol and its social media accounts on Monday, November 21.

Charo Santos: 30 years is not enough

Charo, who has served as the host of Maalaala Mo Kaya and as former president of ABS-CBN, said the 30 years was not enough to say thank you to the people who watched and became part of the show.

The actress also thanked the directors, actors, and staff who became part of MMK. She thanked ABS-CBN as well, which has been the show’s home.

Although the show will be saying goodbye, Charo is not discounting the possibility of reuniting again with viewers in a different capacity.

Maalaala Mo Kaya‘s lasting legacy

Maalala Mo Kaya first aired in 1991 with an episode called Rubber Shoes. The show has since become a platform for viewers to send their letters and these, in turn, were made into dramatic stories.

Several of the country’s actors and actresses have starred in MMK. Aside from regular viewers, many stories of rising stars were featured, too.

MMK even expanded into a radio drama show, movie, and comics. Viewers would also guess the titles of each episode, which has become part of Philippine pop culture.

Moreover, the show has received several award nominations and wins for its episodes and stars. It will make its farewell with a 3-part final episode beginning on November 26.
