Meghan Markle’s Opinion Piece On Miscarriage Is Helping Other Women

Because knowing that we aren’t alone always helps

Just last month, Chrissy Teigen told the whole world her harrowing story about losing her third child. We interviewed Rina Santos about her rainbow baby. MEGA Managing Editor Trina Epilepsia shared her own story of loss. And now, Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle has revealed the story of her own miscarriage in July.

In her opinion piece for the New York Times, Meghan Markle says “I felt a sharp cramp. I dropped to the floor with him in my arms, humming a lullaby to keep us both calm.” And then… “I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.”

Anyone who’s experienced loss can attest to the sheer loneliness one feels. And miscarriages, especially, aren’t a topic that many want to talk about. It is through the bravery of women who choose to share their experiences that women feel less alone during pregnancy loss.

Knowing someone has felt what you’re going through is powerful. It gives us the strength to move toward recovery. It reminds us that we aren’t alone.

Meghan says it best when she wrote, “Some have bravely shared their stories; they have opened the door, knowing that when one person speaks truth, it gives license for all of us to do the same. We have learned that when people ask how any of us are doing, and when they really listen to the answer, with an open heart and mind, the load of grief often becomes lighter—for all of us. In being invited to share our pain, together we take the first steps toward healing.”

Thank you for your strength, Meghan, Chrissy, Rina and Trina.
