Michelle Yeoh Dedicates Oscar Win to Moms and the Asian Community
Michelle, who played the role of Evelyn Wang in the movie Everything Everywhere All at Once, is the first Asian actress to win the coveted Oscar statuette.
After being in showbiz for four decades and nabbing a Golden Globe early this year, Michelle Yeoh capped off the awards season as she won the Best Actress statue at the Oscars 2023 for her role as Evelyn Wang in the action comedy-drama Everything Everywhere All at Once.
The award makes the Malaysian-born actress, known for roles in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies and Crazy Rich Asians, as the first Asian to win the award. She received the award from Jessica Chastain and Halle Berry.

Michelle’s powerful speech to the Asian community and women
In her speech, Michelle mentioned the young boys and girls who looked like her. “This is a beacon of hope and possibilities,” she said raising the statue. “This is proof – dream big and dreams do come true.”
“And ladies, don’t let anybody tell you that you are ever past your prime. Never give up.”
The former Miss World Malaysia titleholder also dedicated the win to the moms as well as her own mother and extended family.
“I have to dedicate this to my mom and all the moms in the world. Because they are really [the] superheroes. And without them, none of us would be here tonight.”
Moreover, she thanked the cast and crew of the film, saying she would not be on stage without all their hard work. She gave special mention to her extended family in Hong Kong as well, where she first started her career as an actress.
“Thank you for letting me stand on your shoulders, giving me a leg up to be here today.”

Big Night for Everything Everywhere All at Once
Michelle’s win caps off a big night for the cast of the film which also nabbed seven important awards. These include Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress for Jamie Lee Curtis, Best Supporting Actor for Ke Huy Quan, and Best Director for Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.
In Everything Everywhere All at Once, Michelle plays the role of Evelyn, a Chinese-American immigrant who finds herself being audited by the IRS and must connect with the parallel universe to prevent a powerful being from destroying the multiverse.
Aside from Michelle, Jamie Lee, and Ke Huy, the movie stars Stephanie Hsu and Harry Schum Jr.
