Meet the New Addams Family: Tim Burton’s Wednesday on Netflix

Families are looking forward to seeing Tim Burton’s version of The Addams Family in the new Netflix series called Wednesday.

Over the years, the Addams Family has taken many different forms. From an old TV show to a cartoon, to several movies starring Hollywood celebrities like Christina Ricci, Joan Cusack, and Anjelica Hudson. There was a Broadway musical that launched in 2010. And more recently, a couple of animated films with Chloe Grace Moretz even voicing Wednesday Addams.

The Addams are definitely a favorite among different generations of families — so much so that people love dressing up as them for Halloween. And Tim Burton’s new Netflix series, Wednesday, will be featuring a new cast — including Catherine Zeta-Jones who plays the family’s matriarch, Morticia.

Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia

Prior to Morticia, the mother of two is known for her roles in Zorro, Chicago, Ocean’s Twelve, and The Terminal. Vanity Fair gave a sneak peek of Gomez’s Cara Mia. Luis Guzman will star as Gomez and Isaac Ordonez plays Pugsley. Meanwhile, the show revolves around Wednesday, played by Jenna Ortega. It will explore her life as a high school student at Nevermore Academy.

Tim Burton is the Executive Producer

Tim Burton is a name synonymous with dark and eccentric shows and movies. And yet, families can’t get enough of them — from Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands to Corpse Bride, Sweeney Todd, and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. We can’t wait to see his spin on the unorthodox Addams.

The Dynamics of the Addams Family

Apart from the humor, there are so many reasons to love the different characters. Gomez and Morticia’s adoration for each other is one. We also can’t get enough of the witty comebacks of Wednesday and her love-hate relationship with her brother Pugsley. Many siblings can surely relate to them. Then, there are other lovable personalities like Lurch, Uncle Fester, Thing, and Cousin Itt. Minus the ghouls and monsters, they’re just like any other family!

Tim Burton’s Wednesday will air on Netflix sometime in the Fall of 2022.
