Shari Poquiz’s Beauty Hacks for Busy On-the-Go Moms

The Misty Mom’s skincare routine and beauty hacks for the busy momma

“I don’t have time for it” is probably one of the most-used sentences moms say when asked about their skincare and makeup routines. Pre-baby, I spent an hour and a half for makeup and 30 minutes for my nighttime skincare routine. After one baby, that was reduced to 20 minutes for makeup and 10 minutes for skincare. After two babies, I felt like I barely even had time to take a shower.

However, I’m a firm believer that it’s okay to want to look good even if it’s as simple as putting on lipstick to feel powerful. Remember ladies, when you look good on the outside, you also feel good on the inside. And that’s okay, that’s not superficial. Feeling good need not come from within all the time especially when you’re tired, heavy-hearted, and uninspired—or a mom running on 3 hours of sleep with no time to even think of how to feel.

With that, I’m here to share a few products and beauty hacks I’ve tried and tested over the years that helped me go from ‘walking dead’ to ‘lava walking in the grocery” after continued use.

23.5N Red Pearl Barley Brightening Lotion

The newest addition to my skincare army packs a punch. It’s from a natural skincare brand from Taiwan called 23.5˚N. This brightening lotion is much more affordable but works great, too. After just a few nights of use, I already witnessed its powerful brightening effect.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Recovery Ampoules

When I feel like I’m having a particularly bad skin day or I have an important shoot the next day, the ampoules are the more intensive, more concentrated version of the serum. This literally makes me glow the next day.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair

I have continuously used this cult-favorite for four years now and it has given me the smooth and virtually pore-free texture on my face. I would try new skincare products but I always find myself coming back to this.

La Mer The Moisturizing Matte

The only moisturizer I can use in the morning before going out in this humid weather. It doesn’t feel like I have moisturizer on at all. It dries quickly and feels matte to touch. It also softens dry patches instantly, which aids in putting makeup on quicker and more efficient.

La Prairie White Caviar Creme

This is one of the few “brightening” creams that really worked for me. Packed with its patented Lumidose molecule, this has significantly brightened my dark spots, evened my tanned and patchy skin tone from a beach trip, and even lightened my under eye area.

AVEDA Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair

I have dry and damaged hair from my obsession with hair coloring and this line from Aveda called Damage Remedy strengthened my hair and brought it back to life.

Makeup

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

The foundation that can last longer than most relationships nowadays. But seriously, this is my tried-and-tested workhorse of a foundation that I use for entire day or night occasions. Those with dry skin need to moisturize a bit as this formula is pure matte that really won’t budge.

OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lip

One of the few matte liquid lipsticks that don’t crack my lips or make them bleed. I have really parched lips but I still love matte lipsticks because I refuse to reapply throughout the day.

Makeup Forever HD Foundation SPF50

The foundation for those who are anti-foundation. It’s lightweight and undetectable on the skin as it’s made especially for 4K technology. This is the daily foundation I just dab on my face.

NARS Radiant Concealer

My ride-or-die makeup product is concealer. I could skip drawing my eyebrows but I sometimes refuse to leave the house without concealer on. NARS has the right amount of coverage for the darkest of dark circles and most importantly, they don’t crease.

Tom Ford Eyeshadow Quad

One of my weaknesses is eyeshadow. I find it hard to get that perfectly blended eye. Tom Ford’s eyeshadows are expensive but worth the price based on all the compliments I get every time I wear them.

Benefit Cosmetics Hoola

Others would usually skip contouring when they don’t have time but I love a bronzy glow. This powder is the right amount of brown without being too warm or too cool. It gives me a healthy, warm, sunkissed, and contoured look in just a few strokes.

Gerard Cosmetics Star Powder

For when I forget to do my skincare the night before and need my extra glow, this is my favorite. It’s the right amount of shimmer without that over-the-top frost.

Hope these little beauty hacks can help! You got this, mom!
