The Tita’s Ultimate Guide To BTS

Find out why your kids are ARMY (and what it means)

So, admittedly, this tita has only listened to the chart-topping Dynamite only once. What do you do if Spotify only recommends 90’s hip hop and “classic club bangers”, right? But after listening to it, I get it. The song is catchy and the guys are glowing. They’ve got the porcelain skin of angels, perfectly coiffed hair that never seems to move despite their vigorous dance moves. This tita is very intrigued. Here’s what else I found out…

The ultimate Tita’s guide to BTS

Who is BTS?

BTS is the biggest boy band in the world, who sadly outshine our aging faves, BSB and N*SYNC. It’s made up of seven members — RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, who are all from Korea.

What the heck does BTS mean?

No, it does not mean “behind the scenes”, “be there soon” or for you raunchy titas, “better than sex”. It stands for Bangtan Sonyeondan, which, translated into English, is “Bulletproof Boy Scouts”. To appeal to mass audiences (aka the English speaking world), BTS now stands for “Beyond the Scene”.

Why Bulletproof Boy Scouts? Big Hit Entertainment (BTS’s record label) wanted to create a group that could be a strong voice for the youth — which is exactly what they are to their fans. “I love that they spread hope and positivity to everyone,” says Modern Parenting’s resident ARMY Emina Sotto. To us parents, that sounds a lot better than our kids rapping about a WAP…

Who’s who?

In BTS, the guys are split into two groups: rappers and vocalists. Suga, RM, and J-Hope are the rappers, while Jung Kook, Jimin, V and Jin are the vocalists. J-Hope and Jimin are known for their dance skills while Suga and RM do songwriting best. RM is also BTS’s fearless leader!

What’s the best way to get to know the BTS guys and their music?

James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke

Here’s an easy intro to the BTS guys — heartwarming enough to melt the heart of the most cynical of titas. Catch Jung Kook and Jin show off their vocal chops and see V’s super cute comments. Ah, to be young.

Introduction to BTS

If you’re like us and still get confused with who’s who, this is the perfect BTS primer. This video delves into the profiles of each member and talks about the history of BTS.

Run BTS!

Yes, our fave guys from BTS have their very own weekly variety show. Each episode features the fab 7 competing in different games or activities. In this episode, they have to clear six missions in 100 seconds!

BTS — 7 years of memories, 7 years of history

Watch the BTS guys grow up (literally) and see all their hard work pay off in this amazing video. And yes, even if you aren’t ARMY, you’ll probably tear up.

Am I a stan?

I get the massive appeal of BTS. They’re beautiful (not hot) guys who have no qualms about wearing dangling earrings or rocking a smokey eye. In a time where toxic masculinity prevails, the gender fluidity of it all is refreshing. And yes, I love that their music reeks of positivity and wholesome good vibes.

Please don’t be worried if your kids tell you they’re ARMY — it’s a very, very good thing.
