Studies show that 40 to 60% of elementary school girls (ages 6 to 12) are concerned about their own weight or becoming too fat. In fact, by the age of 6, little girls start to express concerns about their own weight or shape. This is why it’s so important to empower them and teach them to love their bodies. No matter the size, color, or shape. And Tanya Maria Aguila’s book on body positivity called Me and My Body Book helps with that!

Time to teach little girls about body positivity

The author, Tanya Maria Aguila, dedicates the book to her daughter, Laura. “I grew up extremely self-conscious. And it’s something I carried with me for the longest time. There was a time in my youth where I would hardly eat and go from fad diet to fad diet, and still think that I had more weight to lose. After I first found Yoga, I learned to really love my body. But after joining the health and fitness industry, a lot of my insecurities came back,” she reveals.

“It’s honestly been a real journey of unlearning unrealistic expectations as well as a reframing of what it truly means to be happy in my own skin and to be holistically healthy,” Tanya adds.

“When I found out I was pregnant with Laura, I promised myself that I will do my very best to set a good example and to teach her how to have a healthy relationship with her body and self. When I was preparing for her arrival, I looked for children’s books on this topic but couldn’t find any. And that’s why one night I decided to write one myself!”
