Two Family Films To Watch Out For in the Metro Manila Film Festival 2022

Family Matters and My Father, Myself are part of the roster of films for the Metro Manila Film Festival 2022 starting December 25.

The Metro Manila Film Festival Selection Committee announced on Thursday, October 20, 2022, the last four remaining films that are part of this year’s Magic 8. Of these, two family films are part of the Metro Manila Film Festival 2022.

Family Matters under CINEKO Productions and which Nuel Naval directs is the first. The second is My Father, Myself which Joel Lamangan directs under 3:16 Media Network. These will be joining the movies Deleter, starring Nadine Lustre, and Mamasapano starring Edu Manzano. The four films were chosen out of 22 entries.

The four other films – My Teacher, Labyu with an Accent, Nanahimik ang Gabi, and Partners in Crime were announced in the middle of this year.

How the committee chooses the films

In a statement, Boots Anson-Rodrigo, one of the members of the committee, said it was a collegial decision of a deliberative body. They chose the films based on the following criteria:

  • Artistic Excellence – 40%
  • Commercial Appeal – 40%
  • Filipino Cultural Values – 10%
  • Global Appeal – 10%.

With the theme “Balik Saya sa MMFF 2022,” Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and MMFF Concurrent Acting Chairman Engr. Carlo Dimayuga III hopes that Filipinos will support this year’s line-up when it opens on December 25.

“Let us watch the MMFF in theaters once more. We are happy with the list of entries, which has a wide mix of genres. We are excited and looking forward to MMFF 2022 becoming a success,” he said.

The Quezon City Government will host this year’s parade. The festival runs from December 25 to January 7, 2023, with an awards night scheduled on December 27.
